What To Bring When Volcano Boarding

What should you pack in your backpack?

Hey there fellow adventurers! Are you ready to embark on an unforgettable journey to conquer the fiery slopes of Nicaragua's most iconic volcanoes? Volcano boarding in Leon is an experience unlike any other, blending adrenaline-pumping thrills with breathtaking natural beauty.

As someone who's been there, done that, let me share some insights on what to pack for this epic adventure:

1. Do not bring your Backpack You want to bring all things mentioned below, but you don't really need a backpack for this tour. VolcanoDay will provide you with a small daypack. In this pack you will find all the protective gear. When you arrive to the top of the volcano you can put your personal stuff in the small daypack and then whooooosh slide down!

2. Sun Protection The Nicaraguan sun can be fierce, especially when you're trekking up a volcano. Don't forget to pack sunscreen, sunglasses, and a wide-brimmed hat to shield yourself from UV rays.

3. Comfortable Hiking Shoes A good pair of hiking boots or sturdy sneakers are essential for tackling the rocky terrain of the volcano. Make sure they're broken in before your trip to avoid blisters. Please don't be that guy or girl who wants to go down on flipflops, you will 100% regret this decision! Hiking up is one thing, sliding down is a whole different thing, as you will be using your feet (thus shoes) to break.

4. Water and Snacks Hydration is key when you're exerting yourself in the heat, so pack plenty of water to stay refreshed along the way. Energy-boosting snacks like granola bars or trail mix are also great for keeping your energy levels up. Snacks and such are supplied by VolcanoDay, but do bring at least 1L of water. You can usually buy this at your hostel.

5. Lightweight Clothing Dress in lightweight, breathable layers that you can easily shed as you heat up during the hike. When you go camping overnight on a volcano don't forget to pack a warm jacket or fleece for cooler temperatures at higher altitudes.

6. Camera or GoPro You'll definitely want to capture the exhilarating moments of volcano boarding, so don't forget to bring a camera or GoPro to document your adventure. Just make sure it's securely packed to protect it from ash and debris. VolcanoDay will also have your guide taking amazing pictures during the trip.

7. Cash VolcanoDay does not accept credit or debit cards, so please make sure to bring enough USD of local Cordoba currency. After making the reservation you will see the outstanding amount. If you want someone to carry your board, that's another $5. First beer is on the house, the other you'll have to pay for. So it all depends on how thirsty you are after the Volcano Boarding!

8. Sense of Adventure Last but certainly not least, don't forget to pack your sense of adventure! Volcano boarding is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that will push you out of your comfort zone and leave you with memories to last a lifetime. So strap in, gear up, and get ready for the ride of your life!

With these essentials packed and ready to go, you're all set for an epic adventure on the volcanic slopes of Leon, Nicaragua. See you at the summit!

Happy travels,

Wouter
